It’s a debut for the record books — a refreshing marvel of songwriting and technical composition, that’s both cohesive and explosive — Jordan's voice rises and falls with electricity throughout, spinning with bold excitement and new beginnings at every turn. Lush feels at times like an emotional rollercoaster, only fitting for Jordan’s explosive, dynamic personality. Growing up in Baltimore suburb Ellicot City, Jordan began her classical guitar training at age five, and a decade later wrote her first audacious songs as Snail Mail. Around that time, Jordan started frequenting local shows in Baltimore, where she formed close friendships within the local scene, the impetus for her to form a band. The strange face of someone close. The outsider we all carry inside. The unexplored path in our usual location. A secret, a hiding place, a surprise. This is what Juan Pablo brings us. He‚Äôs the persona that Juan Wauters embodies to tell another side of his story. Not long ago, Wauters released La Onda de Juan Pablo, an album that allowed him to reinvent himself and start writing a separate chapter in his exciting career. Now, as a companion and as a prequel, he releases Introducing Juan Pablo.

La Onda de Juan Pablo was a travelogue of sorts, with its anthropological efforts, its parade of Latin American musicians and its choice to only feature Wauters native tongue. Introducing Juan Pablo, on the other hand, goes back and forth between Spanish and English. It is, in short, more faithful to the interculturalism that Wauters experiences daily. “In my house, among my family, we speak in Spanish. But outside in the neighborhood, we speak in English with my friends. Several of them speak in Spanish with their parents, but not all. It doesn’t cause me any trouble to go from one language to another. I can express myself in the same way: everything is music.” In a nod to both his home country and his adopted home, he includes an English version of “El Hombre de la Calle” (“The Man on the Street”) by Jaime Roos, one of the most popular Uruguayan songwriters. The references to the land where he was born are here on the surface. Between the first track (“Super Talking”) and the last (“Greetings”), songs run in both languages, culminating with “Lora”, which opens like a pop kaleidoscope and ends in a kind of cosmic brotherhood between Eduardo Mateo and Syd Barrett.

His immigrant‚Äôs side. In 2016, Wauters directed the film Romane en Juin in the Southwest of France and in 2017 he performed for the first time in his birthplace of Uruguay. He’s also been traveling Latin America extensively, taking time to pause and rethink his life, his art and his career after releasing two critically acclaimed albums on Captured Tracks, 2014’s N.A.P.: North American Poetry and 2015’s Who Me?.

As both time and place often have a unique influence on music, Wauters originally planned to record his next album while traveling, seeking a break from his life in New York City, the city he has called home since moving from Montevideo in 2002. He settled in Mexico City in 2017 to focus on writing. However, shortly after, he was offered a role in an independent film being shot in Argentina. Never one to turn down a creative opportunity, Wauters packed up his 100 pound mobile recording studio into two suitcases and took off to Buenos Aires. When filming was complete, Wauters wound up writing and recording all over Latin America — from Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, and Chile to Mexico and Puerto Rico — seeking collaboration at every stop with local musicians who embody the traditions and energies specific to each region.

Puerto Rico was one of his first destinations. At a restaurant on the way to Charco Azul in Guavate – a natural swimming hole – Wauters heard a duo playing boleros, music he has been familiar with since his early childhood, but had never experienced in its original context. Those boleros would inspire the repeating melody that makes up the infectious love song, “Guapa.” Later, Mexico City was to become the home of “A Volar,” a beautiful, buoyant track about dreaming wildly that features multiple musicians that Wauters met in Garibaldi, a popular square in Mexico City where musicians for hire gather. Later, he would trek to Buenos Aires, Santiago and Montevideo, creating music and incorporating local traditions into his idiosyncratic, captivating yarns. Until this point in his career, most of his songs had been sung in English, but revisiting his Latin roots inspired him to record songs in his native tongue. Thus, Wauters gives us the first of three albums he will release this year: the wonderful La Onda de Juan Pablo, the world of Juan Pablo Wauters.

Black vinyl pressing housed in a Gatefold sleeve with printed sleeve and poster.

Includes download card.

Release date: 25.01.2019

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0402/9805/3781/products/image_1024x1024_597fdd81-5443-420e-80b5-3289823de198.jpg?v=1614162184
macdemarco-2-lp
2 | Black LP

Mac DeMarco | 2 - Black LP

Mac Demarco's first proper full-length, 2, is a concerted effort to produce a cohesive work that showcases Mac's natural ability as a songwriter, singer and producer. Though there is a fair amount of Cleaners from Venus DNA in the mix due to the charms of the definitely lo-fi recording methods, the music of the Brotherhood of Lizards has a sharp sound all its own. And, the story doesn't stop there.

Towards the end of 1989, Deltic label head Andy McQueen, who knew Newell's general aversion to touring, asked if there was any possibility that the duo might go on a promotional tour. Newell replied, "Only by bicycle." Though there was a heavy sigh on the other end of the line, soon after, whilst studying a map of England and its regional radio stations, it struck Newell that a bicycle tour might be a real possibility. Thus, amazingly, in early October, Newell and Nelson set off on bicycles, instruments on backs, tiny amps in front carriers, for a 600-mile busking tour of the entire southern half of England. The media became unexpectedly interested. More through sheer eccentricity than eco-activism, at the turn of a turbulent decade, the Lizards had unwittingly hitched a ride on a brand new zeitgeist. They were called "The First Eco Rock Band" and the tour became the subject of a number of news items. as well as a documentary that is, alas, now lost.

As 1990 rolled around, however, there was one big problem, for Newell at least: while the Lizards cycled and busked, an EMI employee saw Nelson on TV and thought he would be great replacement bass player for New Model Army. Nelson attended and passed the New Model Army audition and stayed with that band for well over two decades, although it spelled the end of the Brotherhood of Lizards. In spring of 1990, almost two years after they had begun, it was all over. They travelled over a thousand miles on bikes, busked their way around England and made all of the music contained here -- including the duo's self-release cassette -- in this collection.

Double black vinyl pressing housed in a full color sleeve with inner sleeve. Two Hands had to be completely different— an album about the Earth and the bones beneath it. The songs were recorded live with almost no overdubs. All but two songs feature entirely live vocal takes, leaving Adrianne’s voice suspended above the mix in dry air, raw and vulnerable as ever. Whatever guitars are left are pure chrome, plugged straight into the mixing desk with no amplifier or vintage warmth.

Brutalist grey colored vinyl housed in embossed cardboard jacket with heavy matte printed inner sleeve including full album lyrics and detailed credits.

Includes download card.

Release date: 18.01.2019

Girl Band | The Talkies

The Talkies is Girl Band‚Äôs follow-up album to their ground breaking 2015 debut Holding Hands with Jamie. The Talkies is living, breathing, in a continual state of metamorphosis. It encompasses everything there is to love about Girl Band while simultaneously causing an exciting level of discomfort. The moaning and sawing guitars, atonal blankets of sound, abstractive lyrical repetition, chugging snare and ascending / descending snakes and ladders noise-rock guitar deliver something that is so distinctively Girl Band. Prolix. Album opens to unsteady breathing. Slow at first, unwanted and out of time. Breathing shallows and discomfort deepens over the sustained heartbeat of a soon to be familiar A chord. Jarv Is‚Ķ formed to play a show at the Sigur Ros ‚ÄúNor√∞ur og Ni√∞ur‚Äù festival in Iceland at the very end of 2017. Jarv Is‚Ķ was conceived as a way of writing songs in collaboration with an audience. As the material they were playing was in a state of flux the band decided to record their live shows so that they could monitor how the songs were developing. After an appearance at the Desert Daze festival in California, Geoff Barrow (Portishead, Beak>) suggested that these recordings could be used as the basis for an album. Overdubs and vocals were added at Narcissus Studios in Neasden, London. And really, it's easy to see why: Thom Yorke's falsetto crying over a wall of acoustic and electric guitars, as lyrics and music blend to create a masterpiece of melancholy beauty. But what about singing about movies? Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine have paired up for a collaborative project that does just that. A Beginner’s Mind is their debut album that contains 14 songs (loosely) based on (mostly) popular films. The source material is highbrow, lowbrow, and everything in between. The music is folksy, sweet, sincere and harmonically effervescent—Simon & Garfunkel with New Age flourishes. This album runs the gamut and has fun with it, even while its songwriters remain fully rooted in the melancholy folk idioms they are known for.Daniel Anum Jasper, a pioneer of Ghanian movie poster painting, was commissioned to paint a series of new works for A Beginner’s Mind. His paintings are a graphic simulacrum for the same sense of wonder, wordplay, and intrigue that shape A Beginner’s Mind. By transforming old films into vital new songs, Stevens and De Augustine ask us to consider ourselves from a previously unconsidered vantage point—a new way of seeing and hearing—an exercise that’s as necessary and relevant now as it’s ever been.

Angel Olsen | Aisles - 12"

Release date: 08.10.2021

**Please note : pre-orders will be shipped out within 2 - 4 weeks after the release date

Aisles is an EP of 80’s covers from Angel, being released on her new Jagjaguwar imprint – somethingscosmic.

While Spending Time Trying To Conquer The Audio Of Live-Stream Athome Performances, I Got Better Acquainted With My Friend Adam McDaniel, An Engineer And Producer In Asheville, NC. It was recorded as a four-piece consisting of Bradford Cox (aka Atlas Sound), Lockett Pundt, Joshua Fauver and Moses Archuleta. Most tracks feature Bradford Cox on lead vocals except 'Agoraphobia' and 'Neither of Us, Uncertainly,' where guitarist Lockett Pundt is the main provider and 'saved by old times', which includes a vocal collage by Cole Alexander of the Black lips. 'Microcastle' is a dreamy shoegaze record full of trippy melodies and crystal-clear ambiance. The majority of the songs on microcastle are far more focused than those on their predecessor, with a more streamlined, psych-pop structure that delivers quick bursts of shimmering energy. Woody plucked guitars drift lazily making music for a woodland glade that’ll have the squirrels swooning out of their trees.

Beat Happening | Crashing Through (Meyering Mix) - 7"

Release date: 10.09.2021

Beat Happening reach into their bag of goodies and pull out a winner. One of their most requested songs is seen in a new light. This version of "Crashing Through" was recorded in 1986, produced by Patrick Maley at Yo-Yo Studio. The mix is by Jim Meyering, who worked with several Seattle bands in the '80s, including Dangerbunny (featuring members of The Beakers, Dangerbunny released music on early K cassettes). This mix of "Crashing Through" was recently discovered on a reel of mixes Jim Meyering made of several Yo-Yo Beat Happening recordings forgotten in the archive. It was deemed worthy of seeing the light of day, as you’ll surely agree."Crashing Through" was re-recorded in 1987 by Steve Fisk for the second Beat Happening album Jamboree. The B side of this single, "The This Many Boyfriends Club", is also an earlier, alternate to what appeared on Jamboree. This version of the song was recorded at a live performance in Corvallis, Oregon, early 1987.Cover art by Beat Happening member Heather Lewis.

Neal Francis | Don't Call Me No More - Opaque Pink 7"

Release date: 16.07.2021

“I just wanted to be honest about everything, from my musical influences to my story,” muses Neal Francis. After years of dishonest living—consumed by drugs, alcohol, and addiction—such sincerity is jarring from the 30-year-old Chicago-based musician. Liberated from a self-destructive past and born anew in sobriety, Francis has captured an inspired collection of songs steeped in New Orleans rhythms, Chicago blues, and early 70s rock n’ roll. There is a deep connection between Francis’s childhood—his obsession with boogie woogie piano, his father’s gift of a dusty Dr. John LP—and the songs he’s created. The result is an astonishing collection of material without parallel in the contemporary funk and soul scene. The influences are unmistakable: the vocal stylings of Allen Toussaint and Leon Russell; the second line rhythms of The Meters and Dr. John; the barroom rock ‘n’ roll of The Rolling Stones; the gospel soul of Billy Preston; the roots music of The Band. Francis pays tribute to the masters but has his own story to tell: “It’s the life I’ve lived so far.”

The Moving Pictures | Fake Books - Black LP

Release date: 27.08.2021

Fake Books is a co-release presented by K and PerennialTremolo Babylon Reverb soaked 4th generation calamity daysNow that every day is truly like SundayFeedback as languageFlip your Bass Drum on its head “Fail at anything long enough and you’re a legend”Worshiping any sound you can lie in 8 songs 45 RPMADDITIONAL INFORMATION Fake Books finds the Moving Pictures four years after their debut album with three less members and eight new songs. The long-anticipated LP from a group not known for a continuity of sound might surprise new listeners with its congruity and coherence in their most Traditional rock n roll output yet. Traditional in the sense of an exacting guitar tone as the ultimate guide. Traditional in that this iteration of M Pix consists only of one person, in this case a poet and his guitar. Through this lens we watch a reel of familiar concepts- flowers, books, loneliness- repeat themselves reverberated through the artist’s singular voice. And while sparse, the songs are lush and expansive, every poem in strict adherence to a sonic landscape where the form is as important as the content and each belabored guitar tone feels like just another frame of the story. The story is not a happy one- it’s a raw and solitary affair punctuated with steel guitar, synths and a 606. Such upbeats are necessitated when such a crushing narrative is laid bare in between tremolo caverns. There are no easy answers on this landscape, but instead when lent to repeated listens the sadness slowly morphs into pop music and the songs linger for long after the record is done. Reflecting the working class background of Whitby, Ontario, Chastity's songs are charged with the ethos of archetypal youth on the fringe. A project more aptly characterized by its intentions than specific sound or medium, Chastity stands to confront the struggles of those existing in the unseen, often silenced periphery. It is an artifact of youth culture constantly working to form community, bridging isolation with collectivity.Visuals play a meaningful role in this world with Williams using his penchant for crafting consistently sharp, challenging imagery to personalize the narratives running throughout all of Chastity's work - most discernibly, a call for the disruption of harmful status quo.Releasing Friday the 13th of July, 2018, Death Lust follows the plot of suffering to survival. The album begins on a tortured note with 'Come' and builds toward the plummeting finale of 'Chains', evolving from start to finish in a crescendo of severity. Chastity explains, "Death Lust is about growing up death obsessed. It's about the pain that it takes but the capacity that we have to overcome."

HAVE YOU HEARD?
